A Blood Sugar and Hormones Episode

As an integrative and functional women’s health dietitian, part of my job is to figure out the root cause(s) of my patients’ symptoms. In many cases, I find that hormone imbalances and symptoms can be directly linked to less than optimal blood sugar levels and what it’s doing to their bodies. In fact, balancing blood sugar is a foundational strategy for most people. Today’s episode is all about biology and how blood sugar levels impact hormones. Once we understand what blood sugar is and how it affects the hormones in our body, we can start to find solutions to feel more balanced.

In this episode, we’ll talk about the basics of carbohydrate metabolism, the ways blood sugar affects hormones, how to evaluate for blood sugar issues, and how to balance blood sugar with nutrition and lifestyle. Buckle up for some biology!

This Week We Talk About:

  • What is blood sugar
  • How insulin resistance works and how it affects the body
  • How blood sugar and insulin imbalances affect sex hormones like testosterone and estrogen and how that leads to hormone imbalances and symptoms
  • How to know if you have blood sugar imbalances
  • How to balance your blood sugar with nutrition and lifestyle changes
