Having trouble finding a holiday gift for a dietitian on your shopping list this holiday season?
What do you buy a dietitian, anyway? Kale? Avocados?
While we might seem difficult to buy for, there are actually a variety of gifts we would find useful and appreciate!
I asked a few of my dietitian pals to share what’s on their wish lists this year. Here’s what they had to say….
1. Instant Pot
According to chef and nutrition student, Catherine Brown of A Seat at My Table, the Instant Pot remains at the top of the list for those of us who didn’t get one under our tree last year. I agree, Catherine! Now, if only I could find space in my kitchen for one….
2. Yoga Class Subscriptions
Melissa Burton, RDN, RYT-200 would love a year-long membership to a yoga subscription service such as YogaGlo. Sounds like an awesome way to commit to managing your stress! Gift certificates to local fitness and yoga studios would also make a great gift!
3. Photography Equipment and Photo Props
Mandy Enright, MS, RDN, RYT, creator of Couples blog & podcast Nutrition Nuptials has photography equipment on her list. Many of us food & nutrition bloggers are looking to uplevel our photography skills in the interest of improving our blogs & social media. She says “Lighting, tripods, backdrops, Lightroom, dare I even say a new camera?” are on her list. So, if you’re stalking our Amazon wish lists and see really weird things like foam boards, burlap ribbons, or wooden tongs, know that it’s probably for photo shoots. These would make great holiday gifts for dietitians who have a blog or are writing a cookbook!
Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor, Ashley Munro, RD, CDE suggests self-care gifts like adult coloring books like this one (or if 4-letter words are more your style, check out this one), gratitude journals, and body-positive, intuitive eating books such as Body Kindness and Intuitive Eating. We also love the companion Intuitive Eating Workbook.
Even dietitians want to spend less time in the kitchen making healthy meals. Jeanette Kimzal, RDN, NLC has her eye on a Vitamix blender for making small batches of soup for her and her fiancé. (Full disclosure: I have one and I love it!)
6. Cast Iron Pans
Meghan Rafferty McMillin, MS, RD, CSP, CLC of Mama & Sweet Pea Nutrition wants more cast iron pans this year. She says, “It’s important to me to avoid the chemicals and toxins found in most non-stick pans. Plus, the added iron is nice!” I agree! Plus, they look great in those photos for the blog!
7. Top-of-the-Line Knives
Local New Hampshire dietitian Lisa Garcia, MS, RDN of Food Coach wants to add a few new knives to her collection. She says, “If Santa’s listening, I’d love a top quality chef’s knife, a good boning knife, and a first class paring knife.” We hope Santa hears your wish, Lisa!
8. Eco-friendly Kitchen Storage Containers
Brittany Miller, RD wants some of these environmentally friendly Stasher bags. They help you avoid those nasty hormone disruptors found in plastic bags and would make a perfect stocking stuffer!
9. Massage Gift Certificates
Lisa Andrews, owner of Sound Bites Nutrition, wants a massage this year (me too, Lisa, me too). She says, “My back hurts from standing too long in the kitchen.” Dietitians also spend a lot of time stuck to their desks in their offices, or if they write (like I do), hunched over their laptops.
9. What’s on My List?
What’s not on my list is probably easier. Haha. I’d like another giant mason jar and growler to keep expanding my kombucha-brewing empire. I’d like an endless supply of these Moleskine softcover notebooks (my favorites for jotting notes during client sessions). I like these Four Sigmatic Mushroom Coffee packets for a quick pick-me-up in the office. I’d like an essential oil diffuser for my car, because I don’t use those nasty chemical ones anymore. I want an ice cream maker for creating dairy-free treats that are free of the crap that store-bought ones usually have. And I think this baking dish would look great on the blog. What do you think?
Hope this helps you figure out your holiday gifts for dietitians!
