Did you know that the Mickey D’s large-sized Shamrock Shake has 113 grams of sugar?! (1) That’s more than 28 TEASPOONS of sugar! (And if you think you’re being virtuous by ordering the small, that one clocks in at 63 grams—or 16 teaspoons—of sugar. Don’t let their use of “reduced fat ice cream” fool you into thinking that this is any sort of a health drink. It has zero grams of fiber, so there’s nothing preventing it from hitting your blood stream like the sugar bomb that it is.
What’s even worse is that they’re targeting kids with drinks like these.
I’m all for making food fun…but it’s easy to make a healthy minty green shake that comes with the added benefits of fiber and other nutrients!
I used to love a good mojito…any mojito fans here? That was my inspiration for this healthy green concoction made with coconut milk, spinach, fresh mint, and lime juice. I used pumpkin seed protein powder, but you could use any type of protein powder that you like. If you really want to boost the mint factor, add a drop of spearmint essential oil—great for lowering androgens for ladies with PCOS.
With less than 8 grams of natural sugars (and no added sugars!), 9 grams of fiber, and 21 grams of protein, this minty shake will satisfy your St. Patty’s Day craving while keeping your blood sugar steady!
Enjoy!
